bullet. most >> the rain for us -- mostly rain for us. a lot of snow up north. this is a close call for us. we will get some snow later today. all rain on the radar. frederick and carroll counties, sleet or snow mixing in. mostly a rainmaker. let's check the pavement with sarah caldwell. >> we are checking on the year roads. volume is picking up on the major roadways. 97 a route 3, 65 miles per hour. 61 closer to 50.

everything looking good on the north and west side. 12 minutes on the west side. 795 in great shape. no problems on route 1. running smoothly from the perryville region. give yourself plenty of time because the roads are wet. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> the leading edge of some wintry weather has made its way through our area. >> it could have the potential for a messy morning rush. jennifer franciotti has a look at the conditions. >> so far so good in the lutherville region. york road is moving at the posted speeds. the temperature is falling.

this is what state highway is closely monitoring. there are salting operations going on. for baltimore students, there is a two-hour delay. delays are coming in. two-hour delay in howard county. minor salting operations in howard and carroll county is. this is where it gets tricky. those temperatures start to fall. that makes for a treaty conditions on the roadways. just rain falling in the lutherville area. more traffic to get off the roads.

that will make it easier for the salt trucks to get through. it makes it safer after the buses start rolling. jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you. 33-year-old jeffrey shiflett is being held without bail in the death of 33-year-old katie hadel. police said he was a former boyfriend of hers who was just released from jail. he violated his parole by threatening hadel. she said she returned to her apartment despite warnings. >> police agreed to make regular stops several times a day to check in at the mother's house to make sure everything was ok. we believe this is where the

victim was. she returned to rome in the pikesville precinct with the suspect knew that she lived. >> her daughter and another were found inside the apartment when police arrived. >> a mother is charged with murdering her young daughter and tossing the body in a dumpster. she said she killed her daughter cassidy, possibly by smothering her. she then put the body in a dumpster. police discovered the remains. a man has been cleared of child abuse charges. judge did find him guilty of nine other charges. back in september, he left the

medication in his car or his son was able to get to it. >> police have released video from tuesday's deadly stabbing in downtown baltimore. police say deontae smith got into a dispute with a group of people after attending the ravens super bowl celebrations. he was stabbed on north howard street. two other victims are still recovering. anyone with information should call baltimore city police. no charges against a police officer who shot a man for the windshield of a special court last year. officer fred murray responded to a report of a man wielding a knife in southwest baltimore. he said david yim came charging

toward him while he was seated in his car. that is why the officer shot five charges, wounding yim. >> a massive settlement is costing nearly $5 million. the hospital admitted that the hospital overcharge medicare and medicaid for reimbursement and admitted patients where they did not need to remain at the hospital. >> somebody gives you a medication that you do now need and they built the government for it, that is a false claim. the claim includes a representation that service was necessary. >> they admitted to the practice but stopped short of admitting it was a money-making scheme.

a student has come down with a case of bacterial meningitis on the campus of loyola university. the student was diagnosed on thursday. the student is in serious but stable condition. there is little risk to the greater community. >> 34 degrees at the airport. home sales on the rise. >> police are tracking down a suspect, one of their owon. the massive manhunt for former officer. >> temperatures generally above freezing except of the pennsylvania line and out towards frederick. most of the area is seeing rain. >> we will let you know if the

mostly a rainmaker at this stage of the game. a snow maker in the offing in places like new york and boston. heaviest rain to the south of us. to the north, temperatures near freezing. a wintry mix out there. maybe some freezing rain in pennsylvania. it deserves a little caution. temperatures at the lower eastern shore around 40. two parts of the storm. the cold part up near the great lakes. these pieces of the storm merge offshore. it will be passed us by then.

it will explode from new york city and north word. for us, we should see mostly rain. we're on the edge. tonight we will see what happens. the serious stuff is new york can in the state of maine. the source of blizzard warnings. excessive amounts of snow. boston seems to be in the bull's-eye. officially 1-2 feet of snow. new york city could see a foot of snow. we could see some snow around here. 36 to 41 will be the high temperature today. rain changes to snow.

southern california as police look for a former police officer. we get the latest. >> he is considered to be armed and dangerous. >> more than 1000 officers have joined in the massive manhunt. his truck was found on thursday afternoon two hours east of los angeles. he was still nowhere to be found. >> it is difficult to search in these conditions. there is snow on the ground and it is dark. >> he posted a lengthy manifesto on facebook detailing the threats against two dozen police officers he intended to kill. he was fired for making false statements.

he filed a lawful suit against the police but lost. >> any other police officers on or off duty. >> the killing spree began on sunday. two people were found dead. police say he shot and injured an officer and an ambushed two more at a traffic light, killing one. police mistakenly shot and wounded two women delivering newspapers when they thought they had spotted his truck. he said he will not stop until his name is cleared. >> a rough day of testimony for john brennan. he was called want to clarify the drone strike policy on american citizens living abroad.

barbershopper is were taking advantage of clearance sales. there are rising gas prices and a 2% payroll tax hike. consumer borrowing rose by 14 port $6 billion -- $14.6 billion, the highest level on record. credit card debt fell by $3.6 billion. lawmakers are allowing natural gas companies to seek a surcharge of up to $2 to help recover costs to replace aging infrastructure. the surcharge that still has to be approved. those who voted for the bill

>> this is a wbal-tv 11 editorial with president and general manager dan joerres. >> the ravens' victory celebration was an amazing sight as thousands of fans flocked downtown to see the nfl world champions and welcome them home. players raised the lombardi trophy, and fans cheered the team from city hall to m&t bank stadium. some camped out overnight for a good spot on the parade route. it was like nothing baltimore has ever seen before. others packed the stadium for hours, basking in the glory of victory. it was an incredible run with ups and downs, but the team and the fans persevered, and the dream came true. ray lewis said farewell and did his final squirrel dance as a raven, and gerry sandusky put the hay in the barn for the season. ravens nation was in all of its glory and for all of maryland, there were memories that will last a lifetime. there is no doubt conversations about the epic season will be ongoing. looking ahead as the broadcast
